Polish Ambassador Highlights Poland’s Humanitarian and Economic Contributions to Pakistan during Press Conference

Islamabad - 20 December 2024 (Adnan Hameed) : The Polish Ambassador underscored the strengthening of Poland-Pakistan ties, along with the country’s stance on pressing global issues in a recent media briefing on Thursday. The Ambassador emphasized Poland’s dedication to fostering robust bilateral relations, international security, and economic growth. Highlighting the friendly cooperation between Poland and Pakistan spanning over six decades, the Ambassador reaffirmed both nations' shared commitment to upholding the UN Charter. Poland extended its congratulations to Pakistan on its election to the UN Security Council for 2025-2026, expressing optimism about collaborative efforts in conflict prevention and global peacebuilding. The longstanding participation of Pakistan in UN peacekeeping missions was lauded as a significant contribution to global security. The Ambassador noted the impressive growth in bilateral trade between Poland and Pakistan, which surged from €456.74 million in 2018 to €861 million in 2023. Initiatives like the GreenEvo economic mission were cited as vital contributors to this progress, bringing innovative Polish green technology solutions to Pakistan. The role of the Polish Oil and Gas Company (POGC)/Orlen Group in fostering economic ties was also highlighted. Operating in Pakistan since 1997, the company has made tight gas discoveries in the Rehman, Rizq, and Rayyan fields and has invested over USD 450 million. With new exploration plans underway, investments are expected to double in the coming years. The Ambassador drew attention to Poland's remarkable economic growth since 1989, achieving a GDP increase of 826.96%. As a leading economy in Europe, Poland aims to further strengthen trade ties with Pakistan and foster a transparent and stable business environment for foreign investors. Poland's unwavering support for Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression was reiterated. The Ambassador condemned Russia’s actions, including the deployment of North Korean troops, and highlighted Poland's significant military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, which exceeds 4.91% of its GDP. Addressing the migration crisis at the Polish-Belarusian border, the Ambassador described the situation as a hybrid war tactic aimed at destabilizing the region. Poland is collaborating with EU partners to secure its borders and manage the situation effectively. Poland also continues to support humanitarian efforts in the Middle East, contributing over $12.2 million to Palestine during 2023-24 and advocating for a peaceful two-state solution for Palestine and Israel. The Ambassador concluded by discussing Poland’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2025. The presidency will prioritize a secure and resilient Europe, focusing on defense, border security, and combating disinformation. Poland remains committed to fostering international collaboration, promoting peace, and advancing global prosperity.
