From Crisis to Change: Sunbeams Mobilizes Zakat for Literacy

Islamabad - 27 February 2024 (Adnan Hameed) : Sunbeams Hosts Special Zakat Charity Event to Tackle Pakistan’s Education Crisis In response to Pakistan’s severe education crisis, Sunbeams hosted a special Zakat-focused charity event on Wednesday at the PNCA Auditorium, Islamabad. The event, part of the Pakistan 100 for 100 (PK100) initiative, aimed to mobilize resources for achieving 100% literacy in Islamabad by 2027 and nationwide by 2047. With 25 million children out of school, Pakistan faces one of the world’s most pressing education emergencies. Sunbeams, through PK100, seeks to channel Zakat into education, breaking barriers and transforming communities. The event gathered policymakers, philanthropists, and education leaders, who discussed the power of collective action in creating a lasting impact. It also featured real stories of children whose lives have been transformed through education, demonstrating the profound difference one contribution can make. Ainee Nasir Jamy, Founder and Chairperson of Sunbeams, underscored the urgency of the movement, stating, "Pakistan 100 for 100 is more than a mission—it’s a promise. Every child we educate is a step toward a stronger, more empowered Pakistan. This is our moment to turn Zakat into a force for change."
