South Sudan delegation Meets Members of Parliamentary Taskforce SDGs
Islamabad - 21 January, 2025 (Adnan Hameed) : A distinguished delegation from South Sudan, headed by Deputy Speaker Mr. Komelio Kon Ngu Akuck, held a productive and meaningful meeting with Members of the Parliamentary SDGs Taskforce at the SDGs Secretariat office in Parliament House, today. The meeting was a significant step towards fostering deeper cooperation and collaboration between the two countries.
The South Sudanese delegation included prominent figures such as Mr. Kom Kom Geng, Member of Parliament, Mr. Sajjad Hussain Shahid, Pakistan's Ambassador for Sports to South Sudan, Mr. William Dogumo Agon, Executive Director of the Deputy Speaker’s Office, and Mr. James Marboto Katas, Executive Secretary. The Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs was represented by Former Convenor SDGs & Coordinator to PM on Climate Change, Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam, MNA Mr. Syed Hafeezuddin, and MNA Ms. Shaista Pervaiz.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss a range of important topics aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. Among the key areas of focus were security concerns, the role of women in Parliament, sustainable business avenues, and the establishment of trade opportunities between the two nations.
A major highlight of the discussion was to strengthen the Parliamentary friendship groups within the parliaments of both countries. This initiative is expected to foster better understanding, promote cultural exchange, and strengthen ties between South Sudan and Pakistan in the years to come.
The South Sudanese delegation expressed their strong admiration for Pakistan’s hospitality and took the opportunity to counter the negative portrayal of Pakistan by the global media. They commended the country’s commitment to regional peace and prosperity.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with the South Sudanese delegation extending an invitation to Pakistan’s Members of the Parliament to visit South Sudan. This gesture was seen as an opportunity to further solidify the bonds of friendship and enhance diplomatic and sustainable economic relations between the two countries.
The productive discussions and the spirit of cooperation displayed by both sides marked an important milestone in the development of a deeper and more collaborative relationship between South Sudan and Pakistan.
