Embassy of Ethiopia and Pakistan's Ministry of Climate Change Partner for Environmental Progress

Islamabad- 23 April 2024 (Adnan Hameed) : In a monumental collaboration aimed at fostering environmental stewardship and bilateral camaraderie, the Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Ministry of Climate Change of Pakistan jointly launched the "Ethio-Pakistan Fraternity Under Green Legacy" initiative. The initiative, inaugurated at the University of Sialkot, marks a significant step towards sustainable development and cross-national cooperation. Under the auspices of Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula and Coordinator to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, the launch ceremony witnessed the participation of government dignitaries, religious leaders, business representatives, academia, students, civil society, and media. The event featured the planting of over 200 indigenous plant species as part of the initiative, followed by a climate walk engaging a diverse cross-section of society. Addressing the attendees, Ambassador Jemal Beker expressed gratitude for Pakistan's partnership in fostering fraternity and addressing global challenges such as climate change. Highlighting the urgency of collective action, Ambassador Jemal underscored the existential threat posed by climate change and emphasized the need for collaborative efforts on a global scale. He commended the Government of Pakistan for its commitment to a greener future and announced plans for extensive plantation drives in major cities. Aligned with the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia, the Green Legacy Initiative aims to mobilize resources towards sustainable solutions to local challenges. Prime Minister Abiy's Medemer philosophy, emphasizing unity and homegrown solutions, has already led to remarkable achievements in Ethiopia, with over 32.5 billion seedlings planted in the past five years. In her remarks, Romina Khurshid Alam lauded Ambassador Jemal Beker for his efforts in fostering bilateral ties through environmental initiatives. She formally announced the collaboration between the Embassy of Ethiopia and the Ministry of Climate Change of Pakistan, affirming the government's steadfast commitment to the Ethio-Pakistan Fraternity Under Green Legacy Initiative. The launch of this initiative signifies a shared commitment to environmental sustainability and underscores the potential for collaboration between nations in addressing global challenges. As both Ethiopia and Pakistan join hands in this noble endeavor, the world witnesses a beacon of hope for a greener and more resilient future.
