Sri Lanka-Pakistan Defence Ties Bolstered in Meeting Between Admiral Wijegunaratne and General Silva

Islamabad - 16 August 2024 (Adnan Hameed) : The Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Pakistan, His Excellency Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne (Retd) WV RWP & Bar RSP VSV USP ndc psn during a brief visit to Sri Lanka took the time to meet with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil at the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff (OCDS) this afternoon (15 August). The High Commissioner was graciously received upon arrival and escorted to the office of the CDS. General Shavendra Silva expressed his gratitude to His Excellency Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne (Retd) for sparing time to meet him and for the opportunity to discuss important security matters. During the discussion, the High Commissioner elaborated on the initiatives undertaken to strengthen the collaboration between the Armed Forces of Sri Lanka and Pakistan. At the same time, the CDS briefed the High Commissioner on the measures he has implemented to advance the training of Sri Lankan military personnel in Pakistan. Further, the CDS explained the current security landscape in the country, his strategic role within this context, and the operational readiness of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces to address and overcome any emerging challenges. His Excellency Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne (Retd), a former Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, ascended to the position of Chief of Defence Staff following his distinguished naval career. General Shavendra Silva succeeded him as the Chief of Defence Staff in January 2020.
