Refueling facility at Skardu International Airport marks a significant milestone in the development of regional & international connectivity

Islamabad - 12 August 2023 (Adnan Hameed): The official inauguration of the refueling facility at Skardu International Airport marks a significant milestone in the development of regional and international connectivity. DGCAA Khaqan Murtaza, AVM Muhammad Amir Hayat CEO PIA and Syed Taha, MD and CEO PSO spoke in the ceremony held at the airport. Director General CAA Khaqan Murtaza speaking on the occasion said, the alliance between two national flag carriers, facilitated by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), has contributed to the enhancement of operational efficiency at the airport. DG CAA expressed his gratitude to Pakistan State Oil (PSO) for their continuous support and commitment to delivering unparalleled products and services for the aviation industry. He said, this facility not only benefits the airport but also provides a hassle-free experience for airlines operating in the region. Air Vice Marshall Muhammad Amir Hayat, the CEO of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), highlighted the importance of this facilitation by CAA and PSO, as PIA becomes the first airline to operate an international flight to Skardu. He said, this development opens up new opportunities for trade and tourism in the region. Syed Taha, the MD and CEO of PSO, conveyed his appreciation to CAA for its unwavering support throughout their incredible journey spanning four decades. Mr Taha added, the collaboration between CAA and PSO has contributed to the growth and development of Skardu Airport, positioning it as an international gateway in northern Pakistan. A commemorative plaque and tree-planting ceremony was also part of the day's proceedings. Skardu Airport, with its ability to accommodate large aircraft, is now ready to receive its first international flight on 14 August 2023. This milestone will not only boost regional and international connectivity but also strengthen Skardu's position as a key trade and transportation hub, as well as a popular tourist destination in the world.
