Islamabad - 24 April 2024 (Adnan Hameed) : The High Commissioner of Mauritius Rashidally Soobadar, hosted a prestigious reception to commemorate the 56th Independence Day and 32nd Anniversary of the Republic of Mauritius at Islamabad. The event, held at a local hotel, brought together esteemed dignitaries, Government Officials, Media persons, and friends of Mauritius, highlighting the enduring bonds between Pakistan and Mauritius. Addressing the gathering, High Commissioner Soobadar underscored Mauritius's remarkable journey towards economic development, emphasizing its focus on a knowledge-based economy. He highlighted Mauritius's status as a welfare state, prioritizing public education, health, and housing. With a strong emphasis on human capital development, Mauritius has secured a stable position in international economic rankings. High Commissioner Soobadar further elaborated on Mauritius's commitment to education, allocating a significant portion of its GDP towards this sector. He underscored Mauritius's impressive rankings in ease of doing business and peace and security indices, reflecting its conducive business environment and commitment to peace. Reflecting on Mauritius's 56 years of independence, High Commissioner Soobadar emphasized the nation's dedication to human freedom and peace. He noted that the majority of the population in Mauritius live in their own homes, supported by government initiatives. Notably, Mauritius boasts a unique stance as a country without a standing army, channeling resources towards education and development. Highlighting the strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between Mauritius and Pakistan, High Commissioner Soobadar acknowledged Pakistan's support in providing educational opportunities, including scholarships, to Mauritian students. In a gesture of appreciation, High Commissioner Soobadar presented special gifts to the Chief Guests, and Officials of Mauritius who have been dedicatedly supporting him for an extended period. In attendance, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed praised Mauritius's developmental journey and emphasized Africa's significant role in global politics and the economy. The Chief Guest, MNA Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, commended Mauritius's 56-year journey of development, highlighting the increasing economic and trade relations between Mauritius and Pakistan. The event culminated in the ceremonial cutting of a special cake adorned with the flags of Mauritius and Pakistan, cut by High Commissioner Soobadar, accompanied by Chief Guest Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, and foreign Ambassadors, marking the occasion with unity and camaraderie.
