National Heritage and Culture Minister Jamal Shah leads discussions on preserving and promoting children's folk literature and storytelling

Islamabad - 3 November 2023 (Adnan Hameed): Caretaker Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Jamal Shah on Friday chaired a meeting of Advisory Committee for the Generation of Children's Cultural Educational content. The meeting was attended by Secretary National Heritage and Culture Division Humaira Ahmed, Additional Secretary National Education and Professional Training Junaid Akhlaq, Joint Secretary National Heritage and Culture and representative of Sir Memorial Trust Hassan Raza. The meeting was also attended by Director General Pakistan National Council of the Arts, Executive Director Lok Virsa and Director Iqbal Academy. The meeting discussed in details the literary folklores collected during the two-day National Conference on Children folk literary heritage, held at Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) previous month. Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Jamal Shah said that the purpose of two-day conference was to collect and publish children's folk literature, proverbs, stories, songs and lullabies in the form of audio books. He said that the National Heritage and Culture Division was diligently pursuing the project and with the cooperation of other institutions under the division, the project would be completed soon. The minister stressed the need to establish heritage channel under the Culture Division to preserve and promote the collection of folk literature of Pakistani languages, especially children's folk literature. He said that children should be taught the art of storytelling along with reading stories. If children get acquainted with their surroundings and civilization from an early age, they will be able to make better and more useful decisions in practical life.
