Sri Lankan Support for Pakistani Prisoner Repatriation Reaffirmed in Islamabad Meeting between Naqvi and Gunaratne
Islamabad - 19 July 2024 (Adnan Hameed) : Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Sri Lankan High Commissioner Ravindra Chandra Srivijay Gunaratne held a significant meeting to address issues of mutual interest, including the pressing matter of Pakistani citizens imprisoned in Sri Lanka. During the meeting, it was decided to expedite the repatriation process, ensuring that Pakistani prisoners stuck in Sri Lanka will return to Pakistan within the next seven days. Both sides committed to completing the necessary steps promptly to facilitate this repatriation. High Commissioner Gunaratne assured Minister Naqvi of Sri Lanka's full support in the release of Pakistani prisoners. Minister Naqvi emphasized that all measures are being finalized as quickly as possible to ensure the swift return of Pakistani citizens. Minister Mohsin Naqvi thanked the Sri Lankan High Commissioner for his support for the repatriation of the prisoners and said all steps are being finalized as soon as possible for the repatriation of Pakistani citizens imprisoned in Sri Lanka. The discussion also covered crucial topics such as anti-narcotics efforts and border security. Minister Naqvi highlighted the importance of enhancing mutual cooperation in these areas, stating that it is essential to address these challenges collaboratively. This meeting underscores the commitment of both nations to strengthen their bilateral ties and work together on issues of common concern.
