PAK-CHINA JOINT NAVAL EXERCISE SEA GUARDIAN-2023 INAUGURATION

Islamabad - 11 November 2023 (Adnan Hameed) : In a significant display of strategic collaboration, the Opening Ceremony of the Pakistan Navy and PLA (Navy) bilateral exercise, Sea Guardian-2023, unfolded at the Pakistan Navy Dockyard. Rear Admiral Liang Yang, Commander of Qingdao Naval Base, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour, alongside Vice Admiral Muhammad Faisal Abbasi, Commander Pakistan Fleet. Vice Admiral Muhammad Faisal Abbasi, in his opening remarks, highlighted the profound ties between Pakistan and China, especially within their naval forces. Stressing the importance of meticulous planning, he expressed optimism that the exercise would amplify strategic cooperation and interoperability between the two navies. Commander Qingdao Naval Base, Rear Admiral Liang Yang, extended gratitude to Pakistan Navy for hosting Exercise Sea Guardian. He anticipated a mutually beneficial and professionally rewarding experience from this joint endeavor. The Chinese Flotilla, including naval ships, a submarine, and a Submarine Rescue Ship, along with PLA (Navy) Marines Corps Detachment, arrived in Karachi for the exercise. The upcoming drills in the North Arabian Sea will involve frontline destroyers/frigates, air assets, and special forces from both navies, encompassing advanced joint maneuvers. Exercise Sea Guardian-2023 aims to facilitate the exchange of professional experiences regarding contemporary threats in the Indian Ocean Region, fostering bilateral cooperation and interoperability. This joint effort underscores the robust military collaboration between Pakistan Navy and the Chinese Navy. The ceremony witnessed the presence of a multitude of military officials from both nations, further solidifying the camaraderie and shared commitment to maritime security.
