Islamabad - 5 April 2024 (Nasir Abbas): Chairperson of the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), Nilofar Bakhtiar, hosted a delegation from civil society in Gilgit Baltistan to discuss the troubling Falak Noor case. Following the briefing, Chairperson directed immediate support for the delegation and urged the Chief Secretary and IG of Gilgit Baltistan to take swift action. In a bid to ensure justice for Falak Noor, Chairperson Bakhtiar demanded the appointment of an independent medical board to conduct a comprehensive examination to determine both her physical and mental condition, including any signs of violence or abuse, as well as verifying her age through appropriate tests. Furthermore, Chairperson Bakhtiar called for an inquiry into the conduct of the SP and SHO of Danyore, emphasizing that if misconduct or negligence is found, appropriate civil and criminal proceedings should be initiated. Highlighting the broader issue of child abuse and violence in the jurisdiction of Danyore Police Station, Chairperson Bakhtiar urged the Chief Secretary of Gilgit Baltistan to initiate a thorough investigation and take decisive action against any networks facilitating such crimes. This proactive stance underscores the NCSW's commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of women and children, signaling a firm stance against impunity for perpetrators of gender-based violence.
