NA Speaker Lays Foundation Stone for Upgradation and Renovation of 'Library and Research Center of the National Assembly

Islamabad -19 February 2024 (Adnan Hameed) : Speaker National Assembly, Raja Pervez, emphasized the crucial role of the National Assembly Library and Research Center in strengthening parliamentary research. He highlighted its significance in providing essential information and support to Honourable Members of the National Assembly for the development of innovative, research-based legislation. During the foundation stone laying ceremony, Speaker Raja Pervez expressed his conviction that the upgraded departments would significantly enhance support for members involved in legislation and policy-making. He underscored the profound connection between the library and research center and the representation of the people. Furthermore, he outlined his commitment to ushering in a new era of digitization and information technology, positioning the National Assembly as an organization to be emulated. The event, attended by General Secretary National Assembly Mr. Tahir Hussain, Special Secretary for Special Initiatives Syed Shimoun Hashmi, Special Secretary Legislation Muhammad Mushtaq, and senior officers of the National Assembly, marked a significant step towards modernizing parliamentary research facilities. In a detailed briefing, Special Secretary National Assembly for Special Initiatives Syed Shamoon Hashmi outlined the comprehensive upgradation and renovation plans for the National Assembly Library and Research Center. The initiative, aligned with the needs and trends anticipated until 2050, includes the digitization of all National Assembly records. These digitized records will be preserved in the 'National Archive of Pakistan' and the 'Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology,' in addition to the National Assembly Library. Syed Shamoon Hashmi confirmed that tenders for the upgradation have been issued, and the project is set to commence shortly. The visionary upgradation of the library and research center reflects the leadership of Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf and reinforces the commitment to advancing parliamentary research for the benefit of the nation.
