Embassies of the Weimar Triangle and Ukraine Unite in Islamabad to Commemorate Second Anniversary of Russian Invasion
Islamabad - 26 February 2024 (Adnan Hameed): In a remarkable display of solidarity, the Embassies of the Weimar Triangle nations (Poland, Germany, France) and Ukraine joined forces to host a commemorative event at the premises of Poland’s Embassy in Islamabad. The gathering marked the solemn second anniversary of Russia's unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The poignant ceremony featured the screening of the documentary “Culture vs. War” and an evocative exhibition titled “Generations of War,” showcasing compelling works crafted by Ukrainian artists. Ambassadors Maciej Pisarski (Poland), Markiian Chuchuk (Ukraine), Nicolas Galey (France), and Alfred Grannas (Germany) addressed participants, underlining the steadfast bravery of the Ukrainian people throughout the two-year conflict against Russian aggression.
The ambassadors drew attention to the sacrifices endured by Ukraine’s Armed Forces, the widespread devastation of infrastructure, and the dire circumstances faced by Ukrainians, particularly children. Ambassador Grannas underscored the gravity of Russia’s illegal war, challenging the established international order and calling for a unified response from the global community.
Ambassador Pisarski emphasized the critical need to sustain support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, countering Russia’s strategy of attrition against defenders and their allies. He stressed that backing Ukraine is an investment in the security not only of Ukraine but also of Europe and the wider world.
Ambassador Galey reassured the global commitment to supporting Ukraine, dispelling any notion of “Ukraine fatigue.” He highlighted the unity among nations standing by Ukraine since the onset of the aggression.
Ambassador Chuchuk spotlighted Ukraine's resilience against a nuclear-armed power, endorsing President Zelenskyy’s Ten-point Peace Formula as a viable path to peace. He called for international cooperation aligned with Pakistan’s commitment to upholding sovereignty and territorial integrity, outlining provisions for the cessation of hostilities, food security, nuclear safety, energy security, justice, human rights, and adherence to the UN Charter. Ambassador Chuchuk asserted that this proposal remains the sole viable option for achieving lasting peace.
Ambassador Chuchuk acknowledged the far-reaching repercussions of the war, affecting nations globally, including Pakistan. Recognizing Pakistan’s influential voice on the global stage, he urged collective participation in peaceful endeavors aligned with Pakistan’s commitment to upholding the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The solidarity event, witnessed by diplomats, representatives, experts, activists, and journalists, concluded with a resounding call for unwavering determination and international cooperation for peace, not only in Ukraine but throughout the world.
